The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will not only be a state funeral, but also a national holiday. This was confirmed by Charles III.

During his official proclamation in London’s St. James’ Palace as the new king, Charles III. (73) confirms that the date of the funeral of his mother Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) will become a national holiday in the future. This applies in “England, Wales and Northern Ireland” as well as in Scotland, as “The Guardian” quotes from the decree. However, the exact date of the funeral has not yet been announced. Due to this decision, however, September 18 (a Sunday), which was also recently circulating, should no longer be an option.

British media also listed September 19 and 20. For Monday (19th) speak that it would represent the end of a ten-day mourning phase in honor of the late Queen.

A most rare ceremony

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96, will be a state funeral. These have now become extremely rare in Great Britain. The last time this honor was bestowed over 50 years ago was former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965). A member of the royal family was last seen off at a state funeral exactly 70 years ago: King George VI. (1895-1952), father of Elizabeth II.

Princess Diana (1997), the Queen Mother (2002) and most recently Prince Philip (2021) were so-called “Ceremonial Funerals”.
