Royal decadence was once upon a time: King Charles III. A cake rule is intended to ensure that food is not thrown away unnecessarily.
King Charles III, 74, has a new issue close to his heart: He wants to fight against food waste. And that starts with himself, as is now known. A different type of cake every day? Charles doesn’t get that on the royal table. Like the British newspaper Telegraph wrote on Mondayhe has set a strict eating rule: He and his wife, Queen Camilla, 76, should not have new cake every day with their tea, but should eat the old one until it is gone.
The monarch prefers to eat fruit cake. Who knows, maybe his favorite flavor will also be available for his 75th birthday on November 14th. Then Charles III plans. also a very special date. According to the British Daily Mail, he wants to present the new Coronation Food Project, which is also dedicated to the fight against food waste, on his special day.
The king has already donated privately to the project
The Coronation Food Project was founded in December 2022. The king has already supported the launch with a “personal donation”. The plan: Eight food centers will be opened in the UK that will collect and distribute food to food banks and charities. The first four so-called food hubs are to open in London, Liverpool, Glasgow and Northern Ireland, followed by Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham and Milton Keynes. “This new initiative will work with farmers, supermarkets and organizations to ensure surplus food is redistributed to support communities,” the project’s website says. And further: “The Coronation Food Project aims to tackle food waste and food insecurity in all four countries of the UK. The aim of the project is to rescue surplus food and redistribute it to those who need it most.”
200 million meals per year
The project is initially planned for five years. The goal is to provide 200 million meals per year and to enable food to be kept fresh. For example, refrigerators should be provided in the centers. Dame Martina Milburn (born 1957) will oversee the project after completing her term as chief executive of The Prince’s Trust. Around twelve million tonnes of food are thrown away every year in the UK. At the same time, around 4.7 Brits live in food poverty.
The evening before there are celebrations for other 75-year-olds
It is Charles’ first birthday as crowned king. After the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), last September, he was immediately proclaimed king, but was not crowned until May 6th of this year. The day of honor is to be celebrated with his subjects: Charles’ charity The Prince’s Foundation has already announced that there will be celebratory events at Highgrove Gardens in Gloucestershire, England, and Dumfries House in England for members of his generation, who also turn 75 this year Cumnock, Scotland. These celebrations take place on November 13th, the eve of his birthday.
