King Charles, 75, is currently only attending selected appointments. At a meeting with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, 43, he explained with unusual emotion how touched he had been by the reactions to his cancer diagnosis. An insider close to the royal family now reveals intimate details from King Charles’s inner circle to “Closer Weekly” – and what important role Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, plays for her father-in-law.

King Charles: Kate treats him ‘like a father, not a king’

Although Catherine is currently recovering from her planned abdominal surgery, which the Princess of Wales underwent in January, she is said to make it a point to be there for King Charles. The two have a long-standing and close relationship based on trust and respect. “Catherine treats Charles like a father, not like a king,” says the insider – and “Charles appreciates that.”

Catherine is definitely the daughter Charles never had

Regular calls between Catherine and Charles would be on the agenda, as would visits. After Kate’s operation, it was the monarch himself who paid her a visit at the private clinic before Charles himself was treated there for his enlarged prostate. “They have developed a special relationship with each other,” the insider knows – and not just since both had to undergo medical treatment at the beginning of the year. The anonymous source is sure:

Kate is definitely the daughter he never had.

Catherine “will recover quickly”

The biggest thing the two have in common is their sense of humor: “Charles may seem stuffy, but he has a good sense of humor and Kate can make him laugh wonderfully,” the insider assures Closer Weekly. Regarding the Princess of Wales’s health, it is said: “She is recovering quickly and is slowly returning to her everyday activities.” King Charles is also “in good spirits” given his cancer and is concentrating on getting well again: “He understands the situation, but he is putting his health first so that he can continue to fulfill his role as king for a long time.”
