“Ten-year plan”! According to the ex-butler, he will abdicate for Prince William

For Queen Elizabeth, giving up the throne during her lifetime would not have been an option. Things could be completely different with King Charles. Former butler Paul Burrell is sure that the monarch will soon abdicate again.
In May 2023, King Charles, 75, officially followed in the great footsteps of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, †96, and was crowned the new regent of Great Britain. Until her death in September 2022, the record monarch had fulfilled her duties in the service of the crown, as she had sworn to do at her coronation in June 1953. Will her son handle it the same way?
Former butler Paul Burrell gives Charles and Camilla ten years on the throne
According to Paul Burrell, the answer is “no”. The Brit, who worked as a butler for Princess Diana, †36, for over ten years and until her death, is sure that Charles will abdicate in the not too distant future and make way for his firstborn Prince William, 41. “I think it’s going to happen in this country. I think the king and queen are giving this job 10 years. I think they have a 10-year plan,” he told the New York Post.

Burrell sees the reason for this possible break in tradition as the abdication of the Danish Queen Margrethe, 83, whose announcement caused a stir at the beginning of the year – including within the other European royal families. “I don’t think he wants to continue being king now that the crowned heads of Europe are realizing that they are handing over the office to their heirs and can watch and enjoy becoming monarchs,” says Paul Burrell. “The Queen would never have done that because she comes from a different generation, her entire life was focused on being a monarch.”
Will King Charles hand over the scepter to Prince William?
The king, on the other hand, will know exactly what he has to do, he adds, and will “take a leaf out of Prince Philip and say, ‘I’ve done enough’ and want to do things that he wants to do.” The ex-butler believes that this decision could be well received by the people.
I think the country will welcome a new, young king and queen, and things will come full circle with Diana’s son being king.
With Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, the 75-year-old knows the monarchy is in good hands. “I think the King has a plan for the next eight years, but I believe that he will follow the example of the Queen of Denmark, he would like to see his son crowned. Who wouldn’t want to see what their son is like? reached the peak of his career?” said Burrell. “I think King Charles has a different approach to his mother: I think he will work hard for 10 years and then say it’s time to retire and watch his son blossom,” he adds.
If Burrell is actually correct with his prediction, King Charles could at least celebrate his tenth anniversary on the throne in 2033 before retiring at the age of 85 to relax and enjoy his twilight years with Queen Camilla.
