King Frederik and Queen Mary
Host in purple coat dress and dark blue topcoat
Frederik and Mary dressed up for the Icelandic state visit. In the purple coat dress she was the highlight on the red carpet.
King Frederik of Denmark (56) and Queen Mary (52) welcomed Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir (55) and her husband Björn Skúlason on Tuesday at the Nordre Toldbod harbor area in Copenhagen. The Icelanders are on a two-day state visit to Denmark. As “Mail Online” reports, the guests arrived by boat, four of them then boarded a carriage to the citadel, where a wreath was laid.
Mary likes purple – and Soeren Le Schmidt
To greet us, Mary appeared in a particularly striking look. She wore a purple coat dress by Soeren Le Schmidt with a bell hem. She combined it tone-on-tone with a knitted headband and fine gloves. Her slim handbag was also in a shade of purple.
The light gray fine-knit scarf that the monarch’s wife had wrapped around her neck and shoulders formed a strong contrast. Things looked less autumnal around her legs. She wore dark beige pumps over the light-colored tights. The only jewelry Mary wore was her wedding ring and a pair of diamond stud earrings as she posed for photos with Frederik.
Mary’s husband, who followed his mother, Queen Margrethe II (84), to the throne at the beginning of the year, dressed in an elegant dark blue topcoat and dark trousers for his first state visit. It is also Tómasdóttir’s first state visit abroad since she was sworn in as President of Iceland on August 1st.
Royals fans will remember Mary’s Soeren Le Schmidt coat dress from a similar purple dress she wore for another special occasion. With that she appeared to the coronation ceremony of King Charles III. (75) last May in Westminster Abbey.
She has been a long-time fan of the Danish designer and has worn his creations on several occasions, including at Frederik’s coronation in January. Back then it was a snow-white version – and a nod to the Danish flag, as Mary adorned Le Schmidt’s creation with historic ruby jewelry.
On Tuesday evening, the King and Queen will hold a state dinner in honor of the presidential couple at Christiansborg Palace, which Princess Benedikte (80) will also attend.
