In a surprising revelation, King Frederik of Denmark gives personal insights into his emotional world in his book “Kongeord” (“King’s Words”), published just a few days after the change of throne. The publisher describes that the book depicts the development from “a young, reluctant crown prince to a mature man, family man and monarch” and paints an honest picture of Frederik’s personal challenges and feelings. Growing up, the royal struggled particularly with feelings of anger and was aggressive, reports “Bild”.

His destiny drove him mad with rage

Particularly noteworthy is Frederik’s admission that he struggled with strong feelings of anger throughout his childhood and adolescence. He admits that the expectations and pressure that came with his role as heir to the throne often led to heated emotions. “I didn’t like it. Especially when someone reminded me of it at school. When someone in the class said that I was going to be king, I experienced moments of irritation and frustration. They triggered such strong feelings in me. “, he writes. These situations gave him the impulse to react aggressively: “It irritated me so much that I felt like pushing the person or beating them up.”

His 18th birthday was like the end of the world

Another important moment in Frederik’s life was his 18th birthday, when he was officially introduced as the future king. Despite the cheers of the people on the side of the road, he felt that day was a personal “end of the world”: “I had the feeling that everything that was fun and exciting was now ending. The media had started to be interested in me as a person, and it I didn’t feel good about it,” he wrote.

In comparison, his son Crown Prince Christian, 18, seemed very exuberant and happy on his own 18th birthday. Pictures from the two days show a clear difference between Frederik’s and Christian’s state of mind.

King Frederik: Mary is “perfect for the role of queen”

During this difficult phase, Frederik found support from his grandmother, Queen Ingrid, who gave him support and comfort with regular lunches together. Today he finds this support with his family and, above all, with his Ms. Mary. She plays a central role in his life and is “perfectly suited for the role of queen,” says Frederik.
