King Harald was hospitalized a few days ago while on vacation. Now the Norwegian palace has released a new statement about the monarch’s health. Accordingly, the regent was implanted with a pacemaker.

After King Harald, 87, was already on sick leave at the end of January due to a respiratory infection, and the monarch was unable to recover during his current vacation in Malaysia. Because as the palace announced on Tuesday afternoon, February 27, 2024, the Norwegian regent had to go to a clinic. “His Majesty the King fell ill while on holiday in Malaysia and is hospitalized with an infection. The King is being well cared for by both Malaysian and Norwegian medical staff,” the court’s official website said. Now the palace has spoken out again.

King Harald got a pacemaker in Malaysia

“His Majesty the King was implanted with a temporary pacemaker today at the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi,” said a statement on Saturday, March 2, 2024. “The pacemaker was implanted due to a low heart rate. The decision was made this morning and the operation was successful. Given the circumstances, the king is doing well, but he still needs rest. The operation will make the journey home safer,” said the king’s doctor, Bjørn Bendz. The transport home is expected to take place in a few days.

King Harald has to “stay in the hospital for a few more days”

Just the day before, on Friday morning, March 1, 2024, the palace had given an “update on the King’s health situation”, which said: “His Majesty the King is still recovering. The King will continue to receive treatment for a few more days Remain in hospital recovering before returning home.”

On February 28th, the court announced that Harald’s personal doctor had arrived in Malaysia. “His Majesty the King’s doctor is in Langkawi and notes that the King is recovering from his infection. Prince Haakon gave an update on his father’s condition

On the same day, Prince Haakon, 50, also commented on his father’s health. “There are many who are now understandably worried about the king. It seemed as if the form was a little better, the king was in good spirits, so it was nice,” the heir to the throne told the broadcaster “NRK” and explained that he had spoken to the monarch a few hours earlier. “It’s getting better and better.
