Harald V. is ill, Crown Prince Haakon takes over. As the Norwegian royal family announced, the king is on sick leave until Sunday.

The Norwegian King Harald V (83) is out of action until at least Sunday. The royal family announced this in a short statement. Accordingly, he was on sick leave until January 31 because of pain in his leg. Norwegian media also announced that Crown Prince Haakon (47) will again take over his duties and that the government will also be received in the Royal Oslo Castle on Friday.

In the last few months, Harald V's health problems have increased. After attacks of dizziness at the beginning of the year and breathing difficulties in autumn, an artificial heart valve was replaced in October 2020, which he originally had in 2005. In 2003 the monarch fell ill with bladder cancer and was operated on successfully.
