King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima: They apologize for violating corona requirements

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have to apologize publicly. You violated Corona requirements while on vacation.

King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (53) and his wife, Queen Máxima (49), are currently in Greece enjoying their summer vacation. However, they do not disappear from the watchful eye of the public – on the contrary. A careless misstep of the two causes a sensation and now forces the royal couple to make a public apology.

Corona requirements "essential" even on vacation

"A photo appeared in the media in which we keep too little distance", explains the Dutch royal couple what triggered the criticism on Twitter. In times of the corona pandemic, a minimum distance of one and a half meters is the norm. In the picture, that shows the two shoulder to shoulder next to an unknown man, they visibly violate this requirement. The couple does not wear mouth and nose protection either.

"In the spontaneity of the moment, we didn't pay close attention to it," the couple now writes apologetically. "Of course we should have done that," because compliance with the applicable Corona measures is "essential" – "even on vacation," emphasize the royals. The paradox: King Willem-Alexander had his mouth and nose protection with him. The picture shows how he is carrying it in his hand.
