Because the SSD the top performers tend to run hot… and we’re not talking about PCIe 5.0 models.
Tested in our columns almost three months ago, the Kingston FURY Renegade SSD is an excellent product that stands out for its write performance or its remarkable endurance.
Let’s avoid everything throttling
On the other hand, like many other high-end SSDs, it suffers from a tendency to overheat. Nothing catastrophic, but to avoid any effect of throttling – slowing down the SSD to keep it below 70°C – it needs to be cooled.
Most motherboards have enough of a heatsink to avoid any issues, but in some cases users find themselves lacking. Like some of its competitors, Kingston has therefore decided to offer a version of the SSD equipped with a heatsink.
In the effigy of the brand, the heatsink does not seem more imposing than those of Corsair, MSI or Western Digital for example. On the other hand, it is less complex than that of Sabrent, with its heat pipe, but Kingston prefers to insist on the preserved PlayStation 5 compatibility.
Note that the heatsink does not seem to be sold separately: Kingston now distributes two versions of its SSD, with the graphene heatsink label or with the aluminum heatsink.
