Kitzbühel: This is what autumn offers for gourmets and outdoor fans

"Autumn is always our best time", Johann Wolfgang von Goethe already knew. In Kitzbühel you can see, feel and taste it.

Kitzbühel is not only on everyone's lips in winter. While sports fans are looking forward to the legendary Hahnenkamm race, autumn vacationers can already experience very special moments of pleasure. In the midst of nature that heralds its colorful finale, mountaineers, mountain runners and outdoor fans can go on a culinary high-altitude hike – literally.

On a delicacy tour through the Kitzbühel southern mountains

Despite or because of Corona, many Germans have rediscovered Austria as a holiday destination. The Alpine region has opened up step by step and the chamois town of Kitzbühel is again attracting visitors with art, culture and dreamy backdrops. Here, hearty feasting and extensive strolling can be wonderfully combined on the "three-course tour". From the Bichlalm the path leads through the Kitzbühel Südberge via the Aurach Wildlife Park to the Hallerwirt. A Tyrolean delicacy is served per station. Those who want to try their hand at everything from cheese dumpling soup to apple wheel, are on the road for around four hours and can easily get rid of the additional calories on the leisurely hike with an Alpine panorama.

The seven themed hiking trails offer further possibilities: between a 30-minute foray through Kitzbühel to the four-and-a-half-hour Lebensbergrunde, tours for beginners and advanced hikers are included.

"Streif-Live": The Hahnenkamm adventure in autumn

If you want to feel the soul of Kitzbühel, you will not be able to avoid the Streif on the Hahnenkamm. The legendary ski route is considered to be the most demanding descent in the world: a maximum incline of 85 percent, an altitude difference of 860 meters and the key points Mausefalle and Hausbergkante demand everything from the racers at top speeds of up to 150 km / h. The Streif is much more leisurely, but no less adventurous: after the ascent with the Hahnenkammbahn, the "Streif-Live" hike takes you back down the various sections of the route into the valley.

Those who prefer to climb should contact the Kitzbühel mountain guides, who offer a different route every day in their program: from taster climbing to the demanding Bergfex tour in the Kaiser Mountains, everything is included. That and four new hiking information points in combination with eight certified routes and nine hiking hosts may have led to a special award: The Kitzbühel region with the holiday villages of Reith, Aurach and Jochberg was the first region to be awarded the European hiking seal of approval in 2019. And there is a good reason for that: 1,000 kilometers of marked hiking trails lead through fragrant coniferous forests, past moor lakes to panoramic places on the local mountains high above the Gamsstadt.

After a gourmet round on the next bike tour

It's high time for a little breather, because after the "work" is done, you can feast wonderfully through the traditional inns and gourmet restaurants in the region. For that, connoisseurs should bring some time with them, after all, there are eleven award-winning restaurants to explore. So strengthened, we still jump on the bike. 800 kilometers of cycling and mountain bike trails with tours such as "Ums Bichlach" and "The legendary Hahnenkamm" offer variety and breathtaking views for beginners and professionals alike and are well worth a longer stay.

Speaking of booking: In Corona times, many companies offer the option of rebooking or canceling up to the beginning of November up to 48 hours before the planned arrival. The autumn offers offer more security for travelers, a carefree vacation and real moments of pleasure in the golden autumn.
