FC Bayern comments on the search for a coach

The new sports director Max Eberl at FC Bayern cannot complain about expectations being too low. According to club patron Uli Hoeneß, he should lead the Munich team into “new spheres”. But it also depends on one thing: who will be the coach next season?

Uli Hoeneß appears calm about the coaching question at FC Bayern. “I don’t understand all the hassle that is going on around the coaching question. Because we still have enough time to find the right coach. As always in life, FC Bayern will try to find a good solution,” said the honorary president Munich.

The German football record champions have agreed with coach Thomas Tuchel on an early separation at the end of the season. Bayer Leverkusen’s successful coach Xabi Alonso, who already wore a Bayern jersey as a player, is considered the preferred candidate for successor.

“Uli (Hoeneß), Jan (-Christian Dreesen), Max (Eberl) and I exchange ideas. In the end, however, the board, which is operationally responsible, has to make the final decision,” said long-time Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge , who has an advisory role together with Hoeneß. Both are members of the supervisory board.

Nagelsmann an issue?

Dreesen made evasive comments about the coaching staff in the Munich “Abendzeitung”. When asked whether a return of Tuchel’s predecessor Julian Nagelsmann to FC Bayern was conceivable, the CEO replied: “I think other people have already said that, that you should never rule out anything in football. But that is a thing of the future and not one today Theme.” Nagelsmann is currently the national coach and is contractually bound to the DFB until after the home European Championships in the summer.

Meanwhile, Hoeneß has great expectations of the new sports director Eberl and sports director Christoph Freund. “I think that with Max, but also Christoph Freund, we have a great chance, especially in the sporting area, that FC Bayern will regenerate and move into new spheres,” said Hoeneß.

Eberl himself commented on the search for a coach in “Sport Bild”. “We have a list that we want to work through in peace and have discussions in peace. Based on the information, feasibility and similarities – club, squad, coach – we try to make the best decision,” he said. The people of Munich have a list of names. He did not want to say exactly how many trainers were listed there. There are more than four and fewer than 40. One name has now been deleted: that of Sebastian Hoeneß. The successful coach from VfB Stuttgart recently extended his contract.

And Jürgen Klopp is also not an issue for FC Bayern. “I know what it means when you make statements like Kloppo, who said: ‘I have no energy left.’ Few people can judge it better than me because I went through it,” Eberl said. “If a person says that, then the job comes second. And the person comes first. So I won’t call him.”

Meanwhile, Bayern patron Hoeneß also expects the rest of the board around Chairman Dreesen “that FC Bayern will emerge stronger from the difficult situation we were in for two or three years.” In the Bundesliga, Bayern are currently ten points behind league leaders Leverkusen. They were eliminated from the DFB Cup. The Munich team’s hopes of winning the title rest on the Champions League, in which they will face English Premier League leaders FC Arsenal from London in the quarter-finals.
