A representative of the Conservative ruling party in the UK was reportedly the victim of a fatal knife attack on Friday.
As reported by the news broadcaster Sky News, among other things, an attacker stabbed David Amess in his constituency in Essex several times during a citizens’ consultation hour in a church. The 69-year-old died a little later from his serious injuries.
Police arrest suspects
Essex police said a 25-year-old man was arrested after reports of a knife attack. There is no search for further suspects.
The case is reminiscent of the murder of Labor MP Jo Cox in 2016. Cox was also attacked by a right-wing extremist during a public consultation in her constituency and died of her injuries. The murder happened just weeks before the Brexit referendum. (cat / SDA)
