Knockout City will soon go Free to Play and will no longer be published by Electronic Arts

Almost a year after its release, Knockout City are going to be in for some big changes in 2022. It looks like the current business model is no longer sustainable, but this transformation could well breathe new life into the game of dodgeball.

Knockout City soon Free to Play

Despite an original and well-oiled competitive game, Knockout City looks like a free to play by its structure (battle pass, cosmetics…) but without fully embracing the economic model which leaves the title within everyone’s reach. Due to very tough competition, it’s risky to offer this kind of thing these days, but EA and Velan Studio were able to give some enthusiasm at launch thanks to a free trial version or to make the game available on Xbox Game Pass. This is only speculation, but we obviously think that this model is probably no longer sustainable over time in order to keep a reasonable number of players.

While the app will soon sa Season 5: Big Hit, Year 2 will begin the transition to Free to Play this spring with the launch of Season 6. However, players who have purchased Knockout City will benefit from a Loyalty pack which will contain exclusive legendary cosmetic items, XP boosts and 2,000 Holofrik.

The other big announcement is that Velan Studio will self-publish the title to work more closely with the community. We must therefore expect less rich content for this season 5 according to the press release because of this transition. It is therefore to be hoped that this new start will be prolific so that we can continue to throw balls at each other online.
