Know-how in Croatia – Burgenland organic professionals as development workers

Great appreciation for the Chamber of Agriculture (LK): 23 top professionals will train advisors in the Zagreb area. They pass on the knowledge to farmers who want to switch to organic farming. In Croatia the proportion of organic land is three percent, in Burgenland it is already a proud 38.

The journey to Ivanić-Grad near Zagreb took four and a half hours, as did the journey home on the same day. In between, the President of the Chamber of Agriculture, Nikolaus Berlakovich, signed a historic contract during a three-day seminar. The consulting contract runs until 2030. Why Burgenland? With 40 years of experience and an organic area share of 38 percent, they are among the best in Europe. In the region around Zagreb it is still a measly 3 percent. EU-wide it should be 15 percent in five years, currently the average is 8.5. How does organic work? What needs to be considered? How does the transition work? In Ivanić-Grad, five LK experts gave lectures on seeds, soil, plant and water protection and business administration in front of an audience of 80. Various farms were visited and suggestions for improvement were made. “I am proud that Croatia wants to benefit from our rich experience,” said Berlakovich. “We would like to experience this recognition at home.” The hosts gave it: “We chose the best,” said agricultural spokesman Josip Kraljickovic. The return visit to Burgenland follows in June, where they talk about vegetables, wine, fruit, fields and animals.
