Known throughout Switzerland – top chef Jacky Donatz died at the age of 70 – News

  • Former top chef Jacky Donatz passed away on Monday. His biographer confirmed the news of his death.
  • Born in the Engadin, he ran the FIFA restaurant Sonnenberg in Zurich for several years.

From 1999 to 2017, Donatz worked as a host in the restaurant at the extended headquarters of the world football association Fifa. He retired in 2017 – but he has not retired, as his CV says. He has appeared as a guest chef on various occasions.

Known beyond borders

Donatz, who had attended schools in Samedan in the Engadin, completed his cooking apprenticeship in the Zurich-Kloten airport restaurants between 1967 and 1969. Various positions followed – for example as head chef at the Hotel Carlton in St. Moritz.

“Mezzelune, boiled meat and veal chop made him well-known beyond the borders,” says his biography. Jacky Donatz has now died at the age of 71, as the industry magazine Gault Millau reported on Tuesday and his biographer Thomas Renggli confirmed at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
