BVB and Reus break up disaster Gladbach

BVB continues to ride the roller coaster happily. The 4-2 debacle against Glasgow Rangers was followed by a spectacular 6-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Captain Reus is involved in five goals. Youngster Reyna is in the starting XI for the first time in a long time and leaves the field early in tears.
Marco Reus no longer felt the pouring rain and whipping wind. After his gala appearance, the outstanding captain of Borussia Dortmund clapped his hands with Sebastian Kehl and enjoyed the cheering of the fans after the furious 6-0 (2-0) win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Two goals, three templates – with a victory for the soul, Reus tore BVB out of lethargy and also gave his coach Marco Rose peace of mind after the Europa League embarrassment against Glasgow.
“We had to show a reaction again. We did it again today,” said Reus on DAZN: “We played it very well at times. That’s how we have to appear in every game. We got our confidence back.”
Reus (26th), who loves to make it 1-0, did the same against his long-standing club in front of 10,000 windproof spectators. Thanks to three brilliant saves by the outstanding Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, it was not 2:3 but 2:0 after the second BVB goal by Donyell Malen (32nd). “We had three huge chances. We have to score at least one goal. The second half was very immature,” complained international Jonas Hofmann.

Luck also helped BVB: Hofmann failed on the crossbar (62nd). When Marius Wolf made it 3-0 (70th), the injured Erling Haaland cheered exuberantly in the VIP box. Youngster Youssoufa Moukoko (74th) went one better after the third Reus template. Reus (81st) and Emre Can (90th + 1, penalty kick) made the half-dozen full.
Gladbach is four points ahead of relegation place 16, BVB six behind the Munich leader. This time, the local Borussia also successfully braved the bad luck with injuries: Dan-Axel Zagadou and Gio Reyna had to be replaced early on, an emergency defense played. US international Reyna left the pitch in tears. He was his first starting eleven since the end of August 2021, since then he had been injured.
With wind and rain behind them, BVB tried to attack the goal early. Reyna forced Yann Sommer to slide for the first time with a bounce (7th). However, they played too many bad passes and only later got into combining well.
The game became more intense and open. When goalkeeper Sommer cleared the ball on the sidelines, Raphael Guerreiro got a 35-metre free-shot on the empty Gladbach goal out of nowhere. In return, Manu Kone missed alone in front of the brilliantly reacting Kobel (both 23rd). Shortly thereafter, Reus scored his 43rd 1-0 in the Bundesliga with a rebound. Immediately afterwards, Kobel also parried against Hofmann (30th) – Malen immediately punished this again.
From then on, Gladbach ran after the missed opportunities with growing desperation, increasing the risk. Alassane Plea (53rd) tested Kobel from afar. With the wind in their face and the lead behind them, BVB was able to play switchover football, which suited them well. In the end, Dortmund played themselves into a frenzy, the victory was a liberation.
