Koch Media gets a makeover and becomes Plaion

Neither the trivialized press release nor the interview with Klemens Kundratitz (pictured) prepared by Games Industry offers any big revelations about this change apart from the simple desire to revamp and reflect the evolution of the company founded in 1994. Both a family of development studios (Volition, Fishlabs, DigixArt…), a game distributor for many publishers (Sega, SNK, Koei Tecmo…) and publishing labels ( Deep Silver, Prime Matter, Ravenscourt, Milestone and Vertigo Games), Plaion was one of the first major acquisitions of the Embracer group (120 million euros at the start of 2018). Plaion also has a film distribution branch which takes the name of Plaion Pictures, but video games remain the main part of its business, as embodied by its new name (Play-On). Plaion today employs a team of 2,300 people, including 1,600 developers. A figure reached thanks to the acquisitions made since it became part of the Embracer family, in particular Vertigo Games, Warhorse Studios, Flying Wild Hog or Free Radical Design.
