Kodi 19.4: Popular media center gets update


A media center offers many functions and great flexibility. So it’s no wonder that once you’ve used it, you don’t want to be without it. Kodi is at the forefront in this area. Formerly known as Xbox Media Center (XBMC), the tool is currently available for download in version 19.4, codenamed “Matrix”.

Kodi is available for free download on various platforms. At CHIP you will find:

On Windows, Kodi does not have an auto-update function so far. This means that even if you already have a media center set up, you still have to get the completely new version.

If you install the in the existing directory, the version jump should still be done quickly. Alternatively, there is the addon Kodi Windows Installer, with which you not only get final Kodi versions, but also test builds or nightly versions.

The makers of Kodi openly admit it in the announcement for Kodi 19 “Matrix”: No matter how long you develop and test, all bugs can never be found and that is why the release of Kodi 19 was also a “mass test” that is still on brought bugs to light in many places.

The 19.4 mini-update also mainly focuses on minor bugs:

  • Fixed cause of program crash
  • Sorting function fixed
  • Audio track buffer times minimized
