KOI: Ibai’s LoL team in crisis and the toxic FR community?

The European League of Legends scene is very structured. Below the LEC, there are many ERLs who meet twice a year to compete in the EUMs. Over time, we learned with joy that the French league (LFL) was a scarecrow. Among our fiercest rivals, we have to mention the Spaniards of LVP. On the networks as on the ground, they are our biggest adversaries.

This France-Spain rivalry is exacerbated with the narrative arc Karmine Corp vs. KOI. Both structures share a fairly similar history, given that they were built around big influencers (Kameto and Prime on the French side, Ibai and Piqué on the Spanish side). Sometimes friends, sometimes enemies, the two rivals are expected to integrate, more or less quickly, the LEC via a theoretical expansion of the league. But we must not put the cart before the horse and currently, KOI is in “crisis”.

Why is there a crisis at KOI right now?

There is no need to look very far to understand why we are talking about a crisis at KOI today. Just look at the calendar and the ranking of the LVP at the start of Summer 2022. The team continued 3 losses in a row, despite its active transfer window. It is logically in 10th and last position. It is the only formation that has still not opened its counter. Note, however, that KOI played opponents who are more at the top of the basket: FC Barcelona (2-1), the Bisons (3-0) and Team Heretics (2-1). We must therefore speak of a mini-crisis, but the latter will take on a new dimension in the event of an additional defeat on Thursday, against UCAM Tokiers (1-2).

But more generally, this complicated start to the season has to be put into a context that is just as complicated. Presented with great fanfare and arrived with big ambitions, the KOI team failed to convince in the Spring Split. Despite the resources invested and the popular support, it did not even finish in the top 3 of the LVP, synonymous with participation in the EUM. Moreover, if we take a look at Valorant, another Riot Games game, KOI is also in a critical situation. With 2 wins for 10 losses, barring a miracle, the team will not make it to the playoffs. The galleys accumulate and mockery rains down on the networks.

The French community, toxic on the edges?

A semblance of drama also appeared on social networks, by interposed translations. Ibaias Kameto, got into the habit of broadcasting the meetings of his little foals. In addition to giving strength to the players, it also increases the visibility of the structure to attract more sponsors and partners. The small problem is that, sportingly, things are not going very well at KOI at the moment… After a defeat, the Spanish streamer is therefore not necessarily in a very good mood and he can leave in a hurry.

Part of the French public (ultras of the K Corp ?), does not hesitate to stick the knife in the wound to make fun, more or less kindly, of the setbacks of the structure. the chambering and the trash talk are part of the codes of the sport and it is not uncommon to spoof one’s rivals when they are in difficulty. But on the internet and in the world of esports, the codes are a little different. For Ibai sometimes it goes too far and he talked about toxicity. It is difficult to take a clear position in this controversy, in particular because we are dependent on translations made on the networks. But as it says very well Kametoif there is rooming, it must be done with respect and that it does not turn into harassment.

esport-lol

The community has been waiting for long weeks for Team Vitality to officially decide on its LEC roster. It had been a while since the information had leaked, but we now have the heart net. Bees will have several new to League of Legends this summer.
