Kokedama: location and care

It is best to choose a location away from direct sunlight so that the moss does not dry out quickly. You use one to care for the moss ball spray bottle. With this you can water your Kokedama plant without causing a mess.

Make moss balls yourself

You can also make Kokedama yourself. For this you need Moss plates, a suitable plant (see above), flower / bonsai soil, water and, if desired, a (green) cord or flower wire.

Step by step to the DIY Kokedama

  1. Remove the pot from your plant.
  2. Put some water and potting compost (attention: orchids do not tolerate ordinary potting compost!) In a bowl and mix everything into a ball.
  3. Make a hole in the center the size of the plant’s root ball.
  4. Put the plant in and press the soil tightly into a ball.
  5. Now start wrapping the moss sheets around, starting at the bottom.
  6. Fix everything with string or floral wire and also make a suspension for your DIY Kokedama.
  7. Hang the moss ball where you want it ?.

Creative ideas with Kokedama

As you can see, you can easily make Kokedama yourself – of course you don’t have to. You will also find what you are looking for in specialist shops!

You can use Kokedama as Window decoration hang up, but also as Table decoration or wall hanging stage. Kokedama is a great idea, especially for small rooms!
