Because Liverpool lacks regular staff, the young ones step in (successfully).

Jürgen Klopp couldn’t help but be amazed. The trust in his youngsters was inevitably high – but the fact that they would repay it so impressively also surprised the Liverpool coach: “I can only imagine what this week must feel like for them,” Klopp enthused after the 3-0 win Southampton in the round of 16 of the FA Cup.

This meant the two 18-year-olds who achieved success almost single-handedly. Lewis Koumas started in his very first game for the “Reds” shortly before the break (44th).

Because Koumas’ fellow striker Jayden Danns (73./88.) of the same age also scored twice in the second half, Klopp was then forced to warn against too much media attention for his “extraordinary talents”: “It’s okay tonight , but from tomorrow please leave the boys alone!”

Liverpool, which won the League Cup on Sunday to win the first of four possible titles in Klopp’s farewell season, is currently struggling with serious personnel problems – but can rely on its brilliant youth work.
