The federal prosecutor’s office has arrested a Chinese woman in Leipzig who is said to have worked for a Chinese secret service. While working at Leipzig/Halle Airport, Yaqi X. gave information to another suspected agent, Jian G., the authorities in Karlsruhe said. G. is a former employee of the AfD politician Maximilian Krah; he was arrested in April on suspicion of espionage.
According to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, G. is said to have spied on Chinese opposition members in Germany and also passed on information about negotiations and decisions in the European Parliament to the secret service. The now arrested X. is said to have provided him with information about flights, cargo and passengers at the airport between mid-August 2023 and mid-February 2024.
Federal prosecutors said she worked for a company that provided logistics services. The information transmitted was particularly about the transport of military equipment and people with connections to a German defense company.
According to the information, X. was arrested on Monday and brought before the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice. She was taken into custody. Her home and workplace were also searched. The suspicion against her is that she was acting as a secret service agent for a Chinese secret service.
