Kristen Stewart: In the film "Spencer" she becomes Princess Diana

US actress Kristen Stewart (30, "Twilight") is said to embody Princess Diana (1961-1997) in the new film project by director Pablo Larraín (43, "Jackie"). According to the industry portal "Deadline", the film "Spencer" focuses on one of Lady Di's last Christmas parties in the royal circle. The drama took over three days at the Sandringham, Norfolk estate in the early 1990s.

Princess Diana noticed at the time that her marriage to Prince Charles was less and less working and she had to find a way out not to end up as Queen of England. In 1996, Charles and Princess Diana divorced, Lady Di died in a car accident in 1997. Steven Knight (61), who is responsible for series like "Peaky Blinders" or "Taboo", wrote the screenplay for "Spencer". In addition to Pablo Larraín, Juan de Dios, Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski and Paul Webster are named as producers. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2021.

Born in Chile, Larraín has so far had little to do with the British crown, as he explains to "Deadline". He was particularly interested in Princess Diana's story as an "anti-fairy tale": "If a woman decides not to become a queen and prefers to be herself, then that is a big decision. Why does she make this? This is the heart of it of the film." For the lead role, Larraín immediately had Stewart in mind: "She can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong, that's what we need for the film."
