“Krone” commentary – From fines to imprisonment: the judiciary weighs up very carefully

Just a fine after the terrible market stall accident in St. Florian. That might seem mild at first glance. But the judiciary weighs up carefully.

Three months due to an accident with two fatalities. I didn’t want to believe it at first. A fine after the market stall accident in St. Florian – not even the defender believed in that. The judiciary does not weigh injuries and deaths; it asks about the guilt of the drivers. And that was low in both cases. A blackout, an inattention. And in both cases a confession. The perpetrators have to live with the guilt anyway.

It is good that our laws differentiate that the strict (imprisonment) penalties are reserved for drivers who drive far too fast and / or sit behind the wheel while drunk.
