“Krone” interview – Haberlander: “In a crisis, mistakes happen”

“I don’t see a lockdown for those who have been vaccinated at the moment,” said LH Vice and Health Councilor Christine Haberlander (VP), after criticism was raised on Wednesday after her interview in the Ö1 morning journal, in an interview with the “Krone”.

“OÖ Krone”: Since your interview in the Ö1 morning journal on the corona policy in Upper Austria, you have been criticized nationwide. Were really no mistakes made? Christine Haberlander: Of course, mistakes will happen in 1.5 years of crisis. That needs a detailed analysis. Where did mistakes happen? What can we do better in the future? And we do that self-critically. The current figures in Upper Austria are worrying. Should I have responded earlier? It was an unusually quiet summer. The dynamics of the fourth wave surprised us, including the experts. At the end of October the whole thing took off at a very high speed. On October 25, we decided with a panel of experts to tighten the FFP2 mask requirement and implemented it straight away. Our rules are still stricter than those of the federal government. How bad do the numbers have to get for a lockdown to become real? In the federal government’s step-by-step plan, a lockdown for unvaccinated persons is provided from level 5. Nothing is impossible in the pandemic, but I don’t see a lockdown for those who have been vaccinated at the moment. With that I lean further out than other politicians. You can’t rule out anything. If the measures are supported and if we can increase the vaccination rate, a lot can be avoided. What do you hope for in the next few weeks? I hope that the numbers will stabilize. Especially in the health sector. We must do everything we can to relieve the hospitals.
