KTM has recognized the current e-bike trend and is introducing the Macina Sport SX Prime, a lightweight e-trekking bike that weighs less than 20 kilograms.

There are two clear trends for Pedelecs in the 2024 model year. On the one hand, there is great interest in e-bikes with the new Pinion motor transmission unit, such as those found in the Tout Terrain Pamir or the Simplon e-MTB. On the other hand, lightweight e-bikes weighing under 20 kilograms are on the wish list for spring.
It’s hardly surprising that such lightweight Pedelecs are in demand. Especially in urban areas and on everyday errands, where the two-wheeler sometimes has to be carried up or down the stairs or needs to be lifted into an elevator, lightness pays off. You’re not well advised to use a Fiido Titan or something similar.
And let’s be honest: very few really need huge batteries and motors with triple-digit torque. Light models such as the award-winning Kalkhoff Endeavor L Excite or the KTM innovation presented here are in demand.
According to the manufacturer, the KTM Macina Sport SX Prime only weighs 16.7 kilograms (without pedals). A very good value, which was probably only possible thanks to the use of carbon as the frame material. Just like Flyer with the Upstreet SL, KTM also relies on the Performance SX motor from Bosch with 55 Newton meters of torque.
The rest of the equipment is impressive, as it consists, among other things, of mudguards, a luggage rack suitable for touring, a Bosch Purion display and a suspension fork (FOX Float 32 TC Factory 50mm). The SRAM gearshift does not require a front derailleur and offers twelve gears. Braking is standard for the class with the help of hydraulic disc brakes from Magura.
