Kunsthaus Graz – The new boss is called Andreja Hribernik

The Grazer Kunsthaus is under new management: Andreja Hribernik was presented as the new boss today. After the premature departure of the previous boss Barbara Steiner and a discussion about the direction of the Kunsthaus, she is now supposed to calm things down.

Since noon today, it has been decided: Slovenian Andreja Hribernik is the new head of the Kunsthaus Graz: “She convinced us with her outstanding commitment and competence,” says Stella Rollig, Chair of the Hearing Committee. Hribernik has been the scientific, artistic and commercial director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korsaka in Slovenia since 2013. Before that, she worked at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljublijana and at the Gallery for Contemporary Art in Leipzig, among others. She will take up her post in Graz on January 1, 2023 – for a limited period of five years. Premature departure of predecessor The call for applications was necessary after the premature departure of Barbara Steiner, who had left Graz for Dessau, where she took over the management of the Bauhaus Foundation in January Has. When she left, Steiner also expressed her frustration with the local cultural policy. Discussion about the orientation of the house Steiner’s departure also triggered a major discussion about the Kunsthaus. There were only nine applicants to head the facility. But that’s just one of the problems: the number of visitors is stagnating, almost 90 percent of the budget is subsidies. Great challenges await the new boss.
