Twenty-seven years after the death of Kurt Cobain, six of his hair strands are auctioned off. They are from 1989.

In 1989, Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) had his hair cut on tour. Six of his strands of hair are now – 27 years after his suicide – from the auction house Iconic Auctions auctioned. The minimum bid is $ 2,500.

Kurt Cobain’s hair initially ended up in the possession of an artist

In addition to the strands themselves, which are to be sold for the first time, the package on offer also includes a so-called provenance document and photos of the moment of the haircut. It shows Cobain with a woman named Tessa Osbourne. She had given the cult musician’s hair away in a pouch to artist Nicole DePolo after his untimely death, along with a handwritten note that reads: “10/29/1989: Tess cuts Kurt’s hair at 27 Holy Road, Handsworth, B202BU Birmingham, England ”

According to DePolo, Kurt Cobain and Tessa Osbourne are said to have become friends during the Nirvana tour in the late 80s, on which the band presented their debut album “Bleach” live. The iconic, fringed page haircut of the US music star is said to have been her idea.
