Kurt Wallander: The cult commissioner in film and series

The Netflix series "Young Wallander" shows the cult commissioner as a young police officer. These stars have already been seen as Kurt Wallander.

The first season of the new Netflix series "Young Wallander" will be available from September 3rd. It rejuvenates the cult commissioner Kurt Wallander from Henning Mankell's (1948-2015) novels. The series highlights his beginnings as a young police officer and investigator. The Swede Adam Pålsson (32, "Ted – Alles aus Liebe") plays the leading role. Pålsson is not the first actor to appear on screen as Kurt Wallander.

Rolf Lassgård

The Swedish actor Rolf Lassgård (65, "Death of a Pilgrim") achieved great fame in Germany when he slipped into the role of Commissioner Kurt Wallanders from 1994 to 2007. Nine of the total of twelve novels were filmed by Swedish television (SVT) and in Germany mostly broadcast on ZDF. However, some of the film adaptations differed greatly from the book publishers. Rolf Lassgård said goodbye to the role in 2007 with the thriller "Wallander's Last Case".

Krister Henriksson

Krister Henriksson (73, "Modus") is one of Sweden's most famous actors. He played the main role in the Swedish-German co-production "Mankells Wallander". The series has three seasons and aired from 2005 to early 2014. A Wallander novel by Henning Mankell served as a template for the first episode. For the other episodes, Mankell either wrote the scripts himself or was involved in them. The episodes of the series are currently repeated every Friday at 11:45 p.m. on the first.

Kenneth Branagh

The British BBC also became aware of the Swedish commissioner and produced its own Wallander series from 2008 to 2016. It features Kenneth Branagh (59, "Murder on the Orient Express") in the lead role. In 2009 three films were premiered on German television. Branagh not only took the audience by storm, but was also able to convince the critics of himself as Kurt Wallander. In 2009 he was nominated for an Emmy for his acting performance. A total of twelve films were made with the British actor, some of which were shot on the original locations in Ystad in southern Sweden.
