Kwaou-Mathey French champion in the 60-meter hurdles ahead of Pascal Martino-Lagarde and Dimitri Bascou

The 60m hurdles final of the French indoor championships saw Just Kwaou-Mathey get the better of Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and Dimitri Bascou. A final day during which Benjamin Robert retained his title in the 800m.

Just Kwaou-Mathey won his first national title in the 60m hurdles on Sunday during the French indoor athletics championships in Aubière (Puy-de-Dôme) ahead of two top names in the discipline, Pascal Martinot-Lagarde and Dimitri Bascou. On the Aubière track, the one nicknamed “PML” thus missed his seventh national title in the 60m hurdles by five small hundredths.

In an impressively dense final, “JKM” took first place in 7.53 and improved his personal best by four hundredths. Five hundredths behind him, the six-time French indoor champion “PML” took silver and DimitrI Bascou bronze, at the same time.

Qualified for the European Championships

The three medalists will be present at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul in less than two weeks (March 2-5). On this same Aubière track, Maroussia Paré brought the Talence club the title in the women’s 200m in 23”49, the third of her career after those won in 2017 then in 2019.

The men’s final saw Hachim Maaroufou win in 21”02, just ahead of Harold Achi-Yao and Paul Tritenne, separated by just one thousandth on the finish line. Gilles Biron, meanwhile, dominated the 400m in 46”11, the third best French performance of all time.
