Washington announces a new salvo of sanctions against Russia

The United States announced on Monday a new salvo of sanctions aimed at disrupting the supply chains of the Russian military apparatus and financial networks linked to the Kremlin, including entities in France and Switzerland. The sanctions notably target the Russian electronics company Milandr and front companies in Armenia, Taiwan and Switzerland linked to the Russian company, according to press releases from the US Treasury Department and the State Department.

Washington also announces that it will sanction members of the family of Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, himself already targeted by American sanctions, and one of whose daughters, Gulnara Kerimova, owns four real estate agencies in France. A Swiss national, Laurin Katz, who heads these agencies, is also sanctioned. These new restrictions also target the management of the Russian-Maltese luxury aviation company Emperor Aviation, which has facilitated trips for the Kerimov family.

Others sanctioned include Alexander-Walter Studhalter, who plays a key role in the Kerimovs’ funding network, as well as Russian businessman Murad Aliev and entities linked to him. Finally, two other holding companies based in Switzerland and linked to Andrei Grigoryevich Guriev, a former Russian senator close to Vladimir Putin, are also targeted.

The American sanctions aim in particular to freeze the possible assets of these people in the United States and prohibit all interactions between them with American banks or others.
