In Évreux, in Eure, La Poste agents are standing up against the intrusion of artificial intelligence (AI) into their activity. Monday, they were on strike.
To protest against the sudden use of artificial intelligence in the management of their schedules, Evreux post office agents launched a strike this Monday, January 22. They point out the lack of consultation and consideration towards employees and highlight the consequences on their well-being. You will have understood, here, the AI does not convince.
The impact of AI on the schedules of La Poste agents
Since the start of the year, the schedules of agents at the four post offices in Évreux have been directly managed by an AI, which plans their activity over eight days. Management, who has been aware since last July, was careful not to inform the agents upstream. The latter were only made aware… during its implementation. Enough to arouse general discontent, obviously.
This Monday 22, the agents decided to demonstrate their dissatisfaction by striking in front of the Eure prefecture. Only the central office operated with a minimal team, consisting of two managers and one intern.
Agents rail against a lack of consideration which has consequences on them and on the service
The agents denounce being understaffed for several months now, which has caused numerous schedule changes. And with AI in charge, no consideration of the personal lives of agents.
The driving forces evoke a lack of breaks granted and an increasingly significant fatigue. Their management does not seem very understanding either, if we are to believe the agents. “ We are told that if we are tired, it is because we are not organized », they complain, some having more than 30 years in the company.
In a desperate attempt, the agents insist on the non-respect of their status as human beings and regret the lack of consultation in the introduction of AI. Their strike aims to attract attention and highlight the need to find situations that respect the rights and well-being of employees. Because in the meantime, the lack of staff will cause the closure of certain post offices next summer.
