In confinement, the elderly may feel even more isolated than normal. To break their loneliness and reassure their loved ones, La Poste makes its "looking after my parents" service free.

Since the start of confinement, initiatives to help the elderly have multiplied. This period of social distancing inevitably isolates them more than usual. Similarly, the concern of their loved ones, often geographically distant, is amplified. The post office then decided to offer his service "watching over my parents"for isolated seniors during confinement, established by the government to combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a press release released March 26, The post office announces that she "is mobilizing and helping to break the isolation by making its social bonding service "Watch over my parents" free. " This allows the elderly to receive a regular postman's visit in order to maintain human contact. The postman then takes care of making a report of his visits in order to give news to his client's relatives.

During the entire confinement period, persons wishing to benefit from this service will be offered a weekly visit. "Concretely, the customer chooses a day of the week for the postman's visit. A postman telephones the customer before each appointment to confirm that he is ready to receive the postman's visit. If the customer agrees , the postman goes to his home for a moment of convivial discussion, to take his news, and to exchange on the subjects which interest him. If the customer prefers not to receive the visit of the postman at home, the discussion takes place by phone.", Explain The post office.

If the phone call is not answered, The post office says postman will still travel to senior's home "as a precautionary principle" and for "check that everything is fine".

During home visits to the elderly, postal workers will take all the precautions imposed by the current health crisis. The post office effectively specifies that its employees will wear a surgical type mask, use hydro alcoholic gel and respect protective distances to avoid endangering their customers.

The service also becomes free for the 9,000 people who are already customers. Thus, they will not be billed during the containment period.
