  • The women’s 4×100 m relay qualified confidently for the final on Saturday.
  • The Swiss men’s relay, on the other hand, has no chance in the fight for a place in the final.
  • Despite a strong final sprint, Lore Hoffmann missed the advance to the final over 800 m.

Heat 4×100 m women: Swiss women create final qualification

Géraldine Frey, Salomé Kora, Natacha Kouni and Melissa Gutschmidt qualified for the final thanks to a strong performance in the heats. The Swiss quartet took 3rd place in the first of two heats behind Jamaica and Great Britain and thus secured the direct ticket to the final. In 42.64 seconds, the Swiss women set a clear best performance of the season and left Germany and Trinidad and Tobago behind. Especially with the first switch from Kouni to Kora, the Swiss didn’t take any risks. So there is still some room for improvement in the final. “We didn’t want to take any risks. But in the final it’s all or nothing, »announced Kora.

Heat 4×100 m men: Swiss miss the final

The Swiss men, on the other hand, missed the final. Pascal Mancini, Bradley Lestrade, Felix Svensson and Enrico Güntert ran 38.65 seconds in the pre-run and thus remained 12 hundredths above their season best. Despite the fifth fastest time in a Swiss 4×100 m relay, the Swiss quartet had no chance against the top nations, above all Italy with Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, and finished 7th in the heat.

Semi-final 800 m women: Hoffmann falls by the wayside

Lore Hoffmann did not achieve her ambitious goal over 800 m. The middle-distance runner from Valais took 5th place in the second of three semi-finals in 2:01.05 minutes. So she had no chance to qualify for the final over time. Hoffmann stayed in the background during the race as usual, but then had to go a long way in the final corner. Their race to catch up was no longer enough for more than 5th place.
