On February 25, the world of Lady Gabriella Windsor, 43, stood still: her husband Thomas Kingston was found dead on his parents’ estate – he was only 45 years old. Two days later, Buckingham Palace made the tragic news public.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was a thoughtful man who brightened the lives of all who knew him. His death is a great shock to the whole family and we ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn his passing,” said an official statement from the British royal family on behalf of Lady Gabriella and Thomas Kingston’s parents and siblings.

Since then, the 43-year-old has withdrawn from the public eye and, according to British media reports, has even moved back in with her parents. After months of silent mourning, Lady Gabriella is now venturing back into the spotlight – albeit cautiously. During the birthday parade “Trooping the Colour”, the royal was spotted in a window of the palace. Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, watched the parade with the window open, while Lady Gabriella left the window closed and repeatedly hid behind one of the large curtains.

The fact that she chose the monarch’s birthday parade for her return to the public shows once again how close the bond is between the young widow and King Charles, 75. As palace sources reported a few weeks ago, Gabriella was invited to “Trooping the Colour” at the king’s personal request – a great gesture!
