An aggressive swarm of mosquitoes has hit the Gardaland amusement park on Lake Garda. Many people were bitten. The lower half of the body was particularly affected, according to “Verona”Pictures of people fleeing and crying circulated on social media.
Holidaymaker reports “cloud of insects”
A holidaymaker reported to the broadcaster Telebari by a “cloud of insects”. He also described the trip as a “nightmare”. The man and his family now needed antibiotics.
Another affected person told the newspaper “L’Arena” that the mosquitoes were “everywhere, even under my underwear.” Many demanded their money back.
The local health authority identified the insects as sand flies. Experts attribute the unusual influx to the weather conditions and high humidity at Lake Garda.
Man is stung 160 times by wasps
Andrew Powell from Brecon in Wales was also attacked by insects. According to the BBC, he was stung 160 times by wasps after a local farmer’s combine harvester disturbed the nest in the field.
“I stumbled around outside the house and went into the shower, but they followed me in and stabbed me in the shower through my clothes,” Powell is quoted as saying by the BBC. The man had to be hospitalized and reports that the pain is keeping him awake.
