Lamborghini LB744: three electric motors and a V12 to celebrate the manufacturer’s 60th anniversary


After unveiling its electrification strategy for the coming decade and announcing that it will invest more than 1.5 billion euros in its electrification, Lamborghini is starting to unveil some interesting technical solutions about its future supercar, whose code name is LB744.

Replacing the Aventadore, it features an unprecedented layout: the centrally-mounted naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine is complemented by three electric motors, one of which is integrated into the new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. reports. This is mounted transversely and placed for the first time behind the combustion engine. In what has been the transmission tunnel since the days of the Countach, there is a lithium-ion battery that powers the electric motors.

In addition to the internal combustion engine, which provides power to the rear wheels, two electric motors appear on the front axle, each providing traction to one of the front wheels. A third electric motor, coupled to the gearbox therefore, can also power the rear wheels, depending on the driving mode selected and road conditions.

The torque of the thermal engine offers 725 Nm, and 350 Nm are provided by each of the front electric motors. In total, the power unit delivers a combined power of 1015 hp.

The two front electric motors, oil-cooled axial-flow units, offer an attractive power-to-weight ratio of 18.5 kilograms each for 110 kW (150 hp). In addition to supplying power to the front wheels, they also have a torque vectoring function, which helps to optimize driving dynamics and recover the energy produced during braking. In 100% electric mode, the LB744 is front-wheel-drive only to optimize energy consumption, while electric rear-axle traction is activated on demand when needed.

If the battery that powers these three electric motors is of low capacity (3.8 kWh), it has the possibility of recharging only via regenerative braking, or on a household outlet in 7 minutes. In short, it will soon be possible to go buy bread in a Lamborghini while driving “zero emissions”, and without waking up the neighbors.
