Lampard’s horror series continues: Arsenal take out frustration on defenseless Chelsea

Lampard’s horror series continues
Arsenal vent frustration on defenseless Chelsea

Arsenal FC have no chance against Manchester City in the top game of the Premier League. But the Gunners’ reaction is right: in the London derby against Chelsea, coach Mikel Arteta’s team let off a lot of steam – and temporarily moved back to first place.

Arsenal FC has not given up in the fight for the English football championship. Six days after the devastating 4-1 defeat at defending champions Manchester City, the Gunners defeated the overwhelmed Chelsea 3-1 (3-0) in the North West London Derby and recaptured the lead in the table. However, they have played two more games than Man City and their fate is no longer in their own hands.

The outstanding playmaker Martin Ödegaard (18th/31st) and Gabriel Jesus (34th) ended Arsenal’s dry spell of four games in a row without a win with their goals. Team manager Mikel Arteta’s side are two points clear of the champions for the time being but have just four games left. Manchester City, on the other hand, still in the Champions League and FA Cup with title chances, will appear six more times in the Premier League – next on Wednesday (9 p.m. on Sky and in the live ticker on ntv.de) against West Ham United.

Chelsea, only after the break with national player Kai Havertz, conceded their sixth competitive defeat in a row despite a goal from Noni Madueke (64th). Over the entire duration of the game, the “Blues” had no chance against the very focused “Gunners”. Havertz, the unsuccessful caretaker Frank Lampard’s team’s top scorer, was without much of an opportunity to score, failing to find a long-range shot in injury time by Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

European places are out of reach for the ‘Blues’ on the home stretch of a disastrous season, but the relegation zone is just nine points away. Chelsea are looking for a new coach for the new season. Among other things, Julian Nagelsmann was traded. But the former Bayern coach has canceled.
