Landes: a mother suspected of having poisoned her imprisoned daughter

A mother from the Landes was indicted and imprisoned on Thursday, suspected of having poisoned her deceased 18-year-old daughter with overdosed drugs in 2019, the Mont-de-Marsan prosecutor said on Friday.

A second suspect, the brother of the victim’s boyfriend, was indicted Thursday in this case after a two-year investigation which saw 80 witnesses heard and six people arrested, Olivier Janson added during a press conference. . It is possible that this 21-year-old young man, placed under judicial control, participated in the poisoning, according to the prosecutor, who points in particular to his “incoherent speech”.

Beta blocker overdose

On November 13, 2019, Enéa R., victim of an illness, was hospitalized in Dax where she died six days later without any element allowing to understand at the time the causes of death. The toxicological expertise then showed that the victim had died of an overdose of beta-blocker, a drug reserved for patients with heart disease, as had been the case with the victim a year earlier.

According to the prosecutor, the mother (Maëlys D.) “carried out research on the internet a few days before the facts on the consequences of an overdose of this type of medicine” and “she cannot explain it”. She was indicted “because of the obvious inconsistencies in her schedule. The numerous testimonies that we have undermine her version”, indicated Mr. Janson during a press conference.

A “mythomaniac” mother

Placed in pre-trial detention, she disputes the facts. Described as “mythomaniac”, this woman had a strong hold on her two daughters as well as on the victim’s boyfriend and the brother of the latter, the other implicated, “who almost lived at her house”, according to the prosecutor .

For years, the mother had prevented her daughters from seeing their estranged father. The latter had “made numerous reports” before the tragedy, explained the public prosecutor. The father of Enéa R. is a civil party, announced Thursday his lawyer Me Thibault Laforcade.
