Lando on Disney+: “Star Wars” series canceled – the story should still be told

• The Disney+ series “Lando” was first announced in December 2020.
• After the project became quiet, there is now an update.
• The series will not exist; instead, another big project is being planned.

Disney+ has greatly expanded the “Star Wars” universe in recent years. As a result, the series world in particular received numerous new stories with productions such as “The Mandalorian”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ahsoka”. Lando Calrissian, general of the Rebel Alliance and friend of Han Solo, should also join this world and get his own series.

However, that is no longer an issue because the “Lando” series will not exist. His story should be told differently. In the podcast “Pablo Torre Finds Out,” Stephen Glover, the brother of Lando actor Donald Glover, reveals that “Lando” will no longer be a series, but a film.

Stephen Glover has been working on “Lando” with his brother since 2020. Filmmaker Justin Simien (“Ghost Mansion”) was actually considered as director and showrunner of “Lando”. After his exit, the Glover brothers took over the management of the project.

Initially planned as a series and announced as such in December 2020, according to Glover, it developed into a film during work. The brothers are working on this until the writers and actors strikes, which have been going on since May 2023.

In the original “Star Wars” film series, Landoni’s Balthazar Calrissian was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams (“Batman”). In the spin-off “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” Donald Glover took on the role of a younger Lando. His new film will probably also be an “A Star Wars Story” film.

What “Lando” will be about and how far along the Glover brothers are with production is currently unknown.
