Lanxess: targets significantly lower profit in 2024

(CercleFinance.com) – The group’s turnover during the 2023 financial year amounted to 6.714 billion euros, down 17.0% compared to 8.088 billion euros for the year former.

EBITDA before exceptional items decreased by 44.9% to 512 million euros, compared to 930 million euros the previous year. The EBITDA margin before exceptional items reached 7.6%, compared to 11.5% the previous year.

In 2023, net profit amounted to 443 million euros, which represents a significant increase compared to 250 million euros in the previous year. ‘This is explained in particular by the proceeds that LANXESS received from Advent International following the transaction for the creation of Envalior’ indicates the group.

The net result from continuing operations, which stood at -843 million euros, was down significantly compared to the 184 million euros of the previous financial year. ‘This decrease is mainly attributable to the change in operating profit and the depreciation of goodwill linked to acquisitions’.

Lanxess expects the environment to remain difficult, at least in the first half of 2024. The Group therefore does not expect any improvement in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the fourth quarter of 2023 and expects an exceptional pre-EBITDA of up to 100 million euros. From the second quarter, Lanxess anticipates a moderate increase in sales volumes.

‘For the full financial year 2024, Lanxess expects EBITDA before exceptional items to be slightly higher than in 2023. However, profits will remain significantly below the average level of previous years,’ said Matthias Zachert .
