(sda) Lara Gut-Behrami wins a downhill for the first time this winter. The Ticino wins in Zauchensee in Salzburgerland in front of the German Kira Weidle. Gut-Behrami was a tenth faster than second-placed Weidle in her second win of the season after the first of two Super-Gs in St. Moritz. Austria’s Ramona Siebenhofer was a good four tenths behind in third place.

Corinne Suter, who two years ago won her first of three World Cup victories in the downhill in Zauchensee, finished seventh as the second best Swiss. Jasmine Flury from Graubünden equaled her best result of the season so far in the downhill in ninth place, while Noémie Kolly from Freiburg achieved her best ranking by far in a World Cup downhill in fourteenth place.

Gut-Behrami felt right at home on the Kälberloch slope. She finished third in each of the two training sessions. So far this winter she has only contested the two downhill runs in Lake Louise, which she, weakened by a persistent cold, finished in 17th and 23rd place. Now she reported back all the more impressively.

The top favorite Sofia Goggia did not finish. The Italian retired after a minor fall. For Goggia, this ended a long series of successes. She had won all of the last seven descents she contested.

A Super-G will take place in Zauchensee on Sunday from 11:30 am. Lara Gut-Behrami will also be one of the big favorites in that race.
