A study carried out at the beginning of the summer by the Deloitte firm, with the University of Lucerne, among 400 members of the boards of directors of large companies listed on the stock exchange and small and medium-sized companies, highlights the fact that just under 50% of Swiss companies with 250 employees or more have already been victims of a cyberattack.

Large companies highly prized by cybercriminals

Therefore, the larger the size and exposure of a company, the more likely it is to catch the eye of cybercriminals. Companies with fewer than 50 employees would thus be “only” 18% to have been victims of a cyberattack, but all would be in danger, according to the report of the SwissVR Monitor.

In Switzerland, as elsewhere, the situation is worrying, especially since less than 60% of respondents said their board of directors had formulated a clear cybersecurity strategy. Many companies are not sufficiently or not at all prepared for a possible attack.

So much so that, according to the study, 42% of companies affected by a cyberattack suffered an interruption of their activities, often with a data leak and/or a possible break in supply chains. Worse still, in 11% of cases, it is the customers of the companies concerned themselves who are subsequently targeted by subsequent attacks…
