Large-scale operation – farm buildings on fire, tragedy to neighbors

A fire in a farm building in St. Peter/Freienstein (Leoben district) caused a large-scale operation on Monday afternoon. 54 firefighters were busy extinguishing the fire until the evening hours. On the side, there was a tragedy: a neighbor (75) apparently died of a heart attack.

In the afternoon (the emergency call came in at 3:46 p.m.), the service building began to burn explosively, according to a fire department spokesman. 54 Floriani from four weirs (St. Peter-Freienstein, Trofaiach, Madstein and BtF Donawitz) were in action for hours. It is still unclear why the fire broke out, the police have started investigations. The animals that were in the building were saved by the owners and neighbors. One person was taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.
