Large search operation – ski tourers (55) missing in the Koralm area

A 55-year-old ski tourer with an orange jacket and blue headband has been missing in the Koralm area since Thursday evening. An hour-long search had to be stopped during the night.

A desperate search is currently underway on the Weinebene (district of Deutschlandsberg) for a missing ski tourer from Leibnitz. The 55-year-old, athletic man set off on a ski tour in the Koralm area around noon on Wednesday. He parked his car at the Grünangerhütte car park. From there he set off on his own. Borrowed a mobile phone and informed friends on Thursday afternoon the 55-year-old met another mountaineer at the so-called “Hühnerstütz” (near the Grillitschhütte). The 55-year-old informed an acquaintance on his mobile phone to cancel an agreed appointment. His own cell phone battery is said to have been empty. According to his own statements, the 55-year-old, who still looks very fit and is well equipped, is said to have spent the night before in the mountains. Exactly where is currently unknown. Didn’t return from his tour After the man hadn’t returned to his car until yesterday evening and he couldn’t be reached by phone either, mountain rescue and police forces started a search operation. Demand for all smelters has so far been negative. The darkness and the weather conditions, including fresh snow, also made a night-time search difficult, which is why it had to be broken off around midnight without any results for the time being. A new search operation for the man with the orange jacket and blue headband is planned for today, Friday, in the Weinebene area.
