Large storage: where to start? : Current Woman The MAG

In Isabelle Mollat Dujourdin's book "I want to tidy up and I need help", Casa Éditions, all existing storage methods are discussed. A good summary, which allows you to navigate and choose the best method. It also tackles the very first of the problems: where to start ?

1 – Accept the situation

The author advises us to accept the situation and keep trust : "Putting away that can be learned and it also makes good sense (knives in the kitchen and toothbrushes in the bathroom!)"

2 – Identify the reasons for the disorder

You haven't been taught to tidy up, you are messy, you don't have time, you are afraid of running out, … by identifying the reasons why you do not start, you will know how to deal with them better.

3 – Visualize your tidy house

Imagine your zen interior, comfortable, luminous and leaf through decoration magazines, it motivates!

4 – Find THE motivation

Look for a good reason to get started in this great storage: in addition to that of being at home, you may want to: "free up space to welcome a visitor, install a piano …" or even "tidy up to celebrate your birthday with friends ”.

5 – find the logic of your house

When you get home, you have your own habits, you put down your jacket, your keys, your bag, etc. Everything mentioned must find its place naturally: the coat on a hook or a coat hook (and not on a chair), the keys in a specific cup, etc. Every object must have its place, and this for everything you have at home. To make your task easier, one of the solutions is to group your objects by category, such as administrative papers for example.

6 – Imagine cupboards filled to 80%

If you calculate correctly, you must have 20% of space left so that you can see what you have inside and put everything away much more easily.

7 – establish a roadmap

Write down your goal (the piano, birthday, etc.) to keep focus. Set up a strategy piece by piece or by category of objects so as not to disperse yourself.

8 – Organize your agenda

Prepare a storage schedule according to your availability: from 1 to 4 weekends, a full week or a little each day, but really plan.

9 – think about sorting

Provide garbage bags to throw away and boxes to store or give away, sell, recycle …

10 – Seek outside help

Well yes, it is much easier for several people, if only to get rid of your boxes.
