With the controversial Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier (66). according to a report by the US site “Variety” been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. This information was obtained from the production company Zentropa, which von Trier co-founded in 1992. Despite the diagnosis, the director is “in good spirits” and is being treated.

So he doesn’t give up on his work. Von Trier is still in the process of shooting the third and final season of the series “The Kingdom”. The director will also take part in the press tour planned for this purpose, albeit in a reduced way. Season three, called The Kingdom Exodus, will have its world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival, which kicks off on August 31st.

A man of many scandals

Lars von Trier is known for his cross-border art. Be it explicit sex scenes like in “Nymphomaniac” or graphic violence in works like “Antichrist” or “The House That Jack Built”.

However, Lars von Trier did not cause the greatest scandal with one of his films, but at a press conference. During the Cannes Film Festival event where he presented “Melancholia,” von Trier said he had “sympathies” for Adolf Hitler. He later apologized for his confused statements, but after a wave of indignation von Trier was banned from Cannes. Only in 2018, seven years after the scandal, was he allowed to present a film there again.
