Emmanuel Macron “thanked” Wednesday during the Council of Ministers the head of government Jean Castex and his ministers for the “work accomplished” since July 2020, announced the government spokesman, suggesting that it was the last Council of Ministers of the team in place.
The Head of State “thanked each and everyone for the work that has been done (…) He said with solemnity and affection that he had been very proud to be around this table with Jean Castex and his government over the past two years,” underlined Gabriel Attal. Last week, the spokesman indicated that the government would be in place at least until the end of the five-year term, Friday at midnight.
For his part, Emmanuel Macron declared Monday in Berlin to know who would be his next Prime Minister, while refusing to reveal his name. He had previously indicated that he had to have a “social, environmental and productive” fiber.

During the Council of Ministers, “the president had a strong word of thanks for the government and for Jean Castex”, whom he praised “for the work that has been done” despite the “necessary sacrifices in these functions” , according to the comments reported by Gabriel Attal. Jean Castex had succeeded in July 2020 to Edouard Philippe, the first head of government of Emmanuel Macron. “Almost two years ago, Jean Castex agreed to lead a combat government. Yes, there were fights with the health crisis, the war in Ukraine and obviously many others”, added Mr. Attal .
“The president was very complimentary towards Jean Castex, we felt a deep friendship. There was an emotional side, on both sides”, also reported a minister.
