Last lap for Mario Kart Tour, abandoned by Nintendo

Released on iOS and Android in 2019, Nintendo’s attempt to transpose its flagship racing game to smartphones ends next month, leaving fans to be content, on a loop, with old content released over the years.

Mario Kart Tour had a promise, and a big one: to bring the sensations of the license to mobile as best as possible. If the result did not live up to all expectations, the game at least managed to offer gameplay more than compatible with touch screens. This was enough to build a large player base and generate more than adequate revenue, since it is the Japanese company’s most profitable mobile game.

Edge of Mario Kart Tour

The Japanese firm has undergone some changes lately. After the retirement of the official voice of Mario, players have just received a notification that will not please some of them. Nintendo announced that it would end development of Mario Kart Tour on October 4. This means that no tracks, characters, karts or accessories will be added after the next Halloween season.

However, the Japanese company says it will continue to exploit the content it has regularly added over the years. This way, the title will remain playable for as long as necessary, and players will always be able to rediscover their favorite seasons.

This announcement is not really a surprise. Nintendo has remained fairly quiet on the subject of mobile games for some time. If the company is not abandoning smartphones for the moment, it has already parted ways with games that it developed before 2020, among which we find Dr.Mario world And Super Mario Run. A very select club to which will therefore be added Mario Kart Tour from next month.
